30 Day Challenge - Day 5
Welcome back to Day 5 of your 30 Day Body Groove Discovery Challenge!
As a fitness trainer, I was constantly telling my students and clients “No pain, no gain”. It’s not that I was trying to deceive people. At the time I wholeheartedly believed that in order to get healthy, I needed to punish my body until it hurt. I was convinced that this was universally true for everyone. Perhaps you’ve heard that line before? The fact is, pain is your body’s way of communicating that something isn’t right and struggling through your workouts is the fastest way to destroy your body and your health.
So, as you watch through today’s workshop lesson I want you to keep in mind that the “No pain, no gain” way of doing things is a big, fat lie. But more than that, I want you to think about fitness in a different way. Fitness and moving your body should never be a punishment. Instead, it should be a celebration of all the ways you can move, express and challenge your body. As Groovers, we move and dance not because we hate our bodies but rather because we love them. No matter what stage we’re at, we can Groove and feel good.
I don’t want you to fall victim to this belief anymore. Now, I’m NOT suggesting that you shouldn’t challenge yourself in your workouts. Just be nice to your body and listen to its cues.
In today’s workout - which is a challenging one - I want you to pay particular attention to the sensations you feel in your body. As you push your body to its limits, you may start to feel your muscles burn. That’s ok, its telling you it’s working and getting stronger but if there’s a moment that doesn’t feel right or you feel aces or pain in your joints, it’s ok to stop, let your body rest and pick up Grooving again tomorrow.
Above all, I want you to approach today’s Groove session with the perspective that you’re doing this because you love your body and you want to treat it as such.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE: As you go about your day today, be thinking about how you can treat yourself from a reward perspective. Do things for yourself - the way you move, talk, eat, think, etc. Reinforce how amazing you are and how you need to give yourself all of the love and appreciation that you deserve.
