30 Day Challenge - Day 10
You know, back on day 7 we started to talk a little about loving yourself and how that can be hard. We started with a simple exercise to have you treat yourself like you would treat your best friend.
Today, we're going to take this exercise further.
I’ve come to learn that many of the women I work with struggle to not only love themselves, but to even grasp what “loving yourself” would look like.
Right now, in this very moment, if “loving yourself” seems out of reach – like it did for me for so long - and more a nice concept to read about or something reserved for those OTHER women, I’d like to tell you this:
Love yourself by first liking yourself!
Here's how that can work...
To begin, I want you to think about all the things that you like about yourself? Next, I want you to write these down. Big, small, it doesn’t matter!
You could even create a game out of it. How many things can you find? Include things like...
Your smile, your love of animals, your ability to cook a great meal, the way you help others, your sense of fashion, your compassion, your appreciation for nature....
Anything you can think of!
Now, as you do this exercise please, please, please be kind to yourself! Too often we’re our own worst critic. We give everyone room to breathe and make mistakes, but then suffocate ourselves with an expectation of perfection. (Remember the best-friend experiment? Treat yourself like you would your best friend.)
As you do this, give yourself permission to lift your foot off the brakes and run wild. Maybe even think of filling up your bathroom mirror with all of these wonderful things you like about yourself! As you do this my hope is that you'll start to see yourself as the amazing person you truly are.
So, why do I want you to do this...?
After a while of taking these small steps and recognizing how much you like yourself, something magical happens. One day you're going to look in the mirror, or have a thought about yourself, and you're going to realize just how much you really do love yourself. Best of all, you'll really mean it.
Today is about creating your “like list”. Write down the things you like about yourself. There are only two rules:
1. Make your list as long as possible and include as much as you can...
2. Please remember to be kind.
Afterwards, have this list hand to be able to add to it whenever you need to, as well as look at to remind you of how amazing you are.
